The above photos show a new fish farming project we have recently launched in the Ruhama County, Isingiro district of Uganda. The project began after community members were encouraged to identify resources that could be used to start income generating projects. One community member, Mr. Karungi Fred Byeka, realized that his local area was endowed with abundant permanent water sources. He therefore dug a pond and bought some fingerlings (juvenile fish) from the Isingiro district Department of Agriculture.
Following regular visits by our local Movement of Life staff, Mr. Byeka then encouraged his neighbors to emulate what he had done. This resulted in four other people from his village digging their own ponds. Mr. Byeka gave them fingerlings to start them off and they all started fish farming as a source of food and income. The Movement of Life Uganda team has assisted the launch of these projects by providing training, fishing nets, and a boat.
The members of the Ruhama County community are very grateful to the Movement of Life Uganda team for enabling them to improve not only their diets, but also their incomes.
